Botox Treatments BeforeBOTOX Cosmetic Treatments MN
Relax! At StoneWater Medical Aesthetics of Minneapolis/St. Paul, we have the BOTOX Cosmetic treatment you’ve been looking for. You probably know that some of those wrinkles you’d like to erase might actually be creases etched into your skin because your facial muscles have made the same expression thousands of times. These severe wrinkles, often called frown lines or crow’s feet, are due to the frequent contraction of muscles under the skin.

The BOTOX Cosmetic Procedure

To help smooth away these types of wrinkles, BOTOX Cosmetic, a purified protein produced by Clostridium botulinum bacterium, is injected into the muscle causing those deep wrinkles. BOTOX blocks the nerve impulse transmissions from reaching the offending muscle. As a result, the muscle relaxes, and the wrinkle in the overlying skin gradually softens. BOTOX does not affect the nerves, so you won’t feel numbness at the injection site. Muscles related to other expressions are unaffected. This procedure can be used by itself or in conjunction with laser resurfacing if other unwanted skin changes are present. The BOTOX Cosmetic treatment sessions take just 10 to 15 minutes at StoneWater Medical Aesthetic.

Before & After Care

At the time you make your appointment for your first BOTOX Cosmetic session, you will be advised to avoid aspirin and any products containing aspirin for ten days before your treatment. After the treatment, you should avoid rubbing the treated area or areas for 48 hours. You should also remain sitting or standing for at least four hours after the treatment. You may resume light activities immediately but avoid exercise for 24 hours. If your BOTOX Cosmetic injection is partially or completely unsuccessful, we can retreat the area(s) after a minimum of two weeks following your first treatment.

You’ll See The Results

You can expect to see initial results from your BOTOX Cosmetic treatment in three to 10 days. You’ll see the optimal effects in one to four weeks. The relaxing effects of BOTOX Cosmetic usually last three to five months, at which time your wrinkles will gradually appear as they were before the treatment. If you like, we can call to see if you want to schedule another BOTOX treatment. After several treatments, the effects of BOTOX Cosmetic may begin to last longer, sometimes from six to eight months.

Is It Safe?

BOTOX Cosmetic has been used safely in the field of ophthalmology and neurologic fields for decades, and it has been used to treat muscle-caused wrinkles for over six years. The most serious side effects that have been observed are temporary drooping of the eyelid or double vision. These side effects result from weakening of the muscles very close to the eyelid. The complications are self-limited and wear off within a few weeks. To avoid these side effects, injections are kept away from the eyelid itself. Mild headache, nausea and upper respiratory or flu like symptoms have also been reported. These are generally limited and resolve quickly. Bruising can also occur at the injection site, but this clears rapidly and is usually gone within a day or two, and is easily covered with makeup. No systemic side effects have been noted. Diluting BOTOX Cosmetic can decrease its effectiveness. We prefer to use higher concentrations and smaller volumes to maximize its effect and reduce side effects.

We do not use BOTOX Cosmetic on individuals with existing neuro-muscular disorders such as multiple sclerosis, or other significant systemic or disabling diseases or conditions. Also, if you have an infection at the site to be treated, we will not treat you with BOTOX Cosmetic until the infection has completely cleared. At your initial complimentary consultation at StoneWater Medical Aesthetics, Dr. Elser will discuss your skincare goals and overall health, and will let you know if BOTOX Cosmetic is right for you.
